CANCELLED – Graduation Numeracy Assessment w/exception

Posted: March 31, 2020

The Ministry of Education has cancelled all Provincial assessments including the Gr. 10 Numeracy assessment except for those Grade 12 students who need this for graduation.

This is an important message for parents who have a student in a grade 10 or 11 as you child has been registered to write the mandatory Graduation Numeracy Assessment in April of 2020. The assessment is being administered according to grade level and is not linked to a specific Math class or course. The assessment is mandatory and essential for graduation and parents can get more info about the assessment by clicking on the following link: Parent Brochure. The school has automatically registered all grade 10 and grade 11 students for this assessment and no further action is required. Any current Grade 12s that have missed the first two opportunities to write this assessment or want to rewrite will need to complete this online form prior to March 10th: https://tinyurl.com/sjku36k. Students can find a practice/sample assessment online at https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/assessment/grade-10-numeracy-assessment. We have asked all grade 10 and 11 Math teachers to briefly discuss the assessment in their classes and explain the format prior to the April write. Students who desire additional preparation and practice are welcome to sign up to attend special Numeracy Assessment study sessions which will happen during Flex in our library on April 6th and 9th.  Students can sign up for these Flex sessions, hosted by Mrs. Corrigan, using this link: study session sign up. Please note that the assessment can take up to 3 hours to complete and is not written within a student’s Math class. The assessment will be completed in our school’s library and students will be writing over a five-day period, between April 14th-20th, according to their last name. Students must write on their assigned day and during their specific time slot. If a student is unable to write on their assigned day, they need to reach out to Mr. Kitteringham with plenty of notice. Resource or Learning Support students do not write in the library and are instructed to report directly to their normal Resource or Learning Support classroom at 8:30am on their assigned day.
